Winemaker Notes
A landmark vintage and reference for many who have been lucky enough to drink the Taylor Fladgate 1963 Vintage Port. It is surprisingly more youthful in colour than the 1960.

In 1963, a cold Winter was followed by a wet Spring. Christmas Day temperature of -4ºC was one of the lowest for many years. Apart from two periods of hot weather in July and August, the Summer was cool. The harvest started on 7th October with perfect weather, hot days and cool nights.

This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades. Their tawnys are also among the very best, though somewhat expensive. The 1963 is quite fabulous yet still seemingly capable of developing for another decade or more.
