The 2017 Clos Vougeot from Domaine Coquard Loison Fleurot is a fine bottle in the making. The estate owns two separate parcels in the Clos and the vines are all old, so the average here is seventy years of age. The wine sees fifty percent new wood and the 2017 version offers up a bright bouquet of cherries, red plums, pigeon, a lovely array of soil tones, woodsmoke, mustard seed and spicy oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely sappy at the core, with ripe tannins, fine focus and grip and a long, nascently complex and soil-driven finish. Good juice.
