Winemaker Notes
This was a classic vintage year over much of South Australia, with ideally long, slow ripening. So Ive been awaiting the 02 Roennfeldts with more excitement than usual. This wine will take many, many years to calm down. After five years, its tightAmerican oak is still prominent, yet everything seems to be here in equal proportion. Six days after opening it was just beginning to smooth out, fluffy and intense and as long as the Nullarbor. One glass managed to survive in the bottom of the opened, recorked bottle for another fortnight and its still quite simply a gorgeous, right royal drink.
Press
The two Roennfeldt Road cuvees, from one of Barossa’s most esteemed addresses, appear to be the finest since the legendary 1998s The 2002 Roennfeldt Road Shiraz was aged in new French oak. Aromas of pain grille, truffle, mineral, violets, blackberry, and blueberry compote are ethereal and lead to a voluptuous, densely layered, succulent, complex Shiraz with 10-15 years of aging potential, This extraordinary effort should drink well through 2040.
