Good bright ruby-red. Knockout nose suggests a very concentrated wine: wild dark berries, minerals, spices, chocolate, game and leather. Sweet, lush and silky if a bit youthfully tight, with a penetrating quality that gives the fruit and mineral flavors an almost painful intensity. Finishes very long, with a strong impression of extract.
Rated 94 Vinous
Elegant and harmonious, with cherry, black currant, wild berry and spice notes. Focused and dense, with everything in the right place. Terrific aftertaste of fruit and spice. Best from 2012 through 2024.

Jadot’s 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Estournelles St.-Jacques smells intensely of black fruits and licorice. In the mouth, this exhibits juicy, fresh fruit of impressive purity in a texturally rather spare format. Pungent wood smoke and smoked meat notes and sweet, high-toned inner-mouth esters mingle with beef marrow and salt, chalk and iodine mineral elements leading to a long, savory finish. This is a fascinating wine with at least 10-12 years of positive evolution ahead of it
