2017 Erben von Beulwitz Kaseler Nies'chen Auf den Mauern Riesling Grosses Gewachs Mosel, Germany

$49.99 USD

Winemaker Notes
The nickname of this dry Riesling, “Auf den Mauern” (Atop the Walls) refers to a few rows of old ungrafted vines in a terraced section of the vineyard. Aged in a combination of stainless steel tanks and old large wooden vats, this Grosses Gewächs Riesling is softly textured, well-balanced and complex. Notes of lime, peach and mango mingle with stony minerality of crushed pebbles which gives the wine a crunchy backbone. The finish lingers with mouthwatering citrus flavors.

Rated 90 Points Vinous
A Ruwer-typical alliance of lime and white currant lends this bottling pungency and tang that were missing from a great many other von Beulwitz 2017s. While marginally lower in alcohol than its “Im Taubenberg” counterpart and with a welcome sense of buoyancy, this conveys a conspicuous sense of stuffing as well, which nicely complements its glossy, satiny texture. An infectiously juicy finish is admirably transparent to stony and alkaline nuances. (This wine’s nickname, meaning “Atop the Walls,” refers to a few rows of old vines in a terraced section of Nies'chen.)
