2018 Kamen Estate Kashmir Cabernet Sauvignon Moon Mountain District, USA

$239.99 USD

In 2018, Northern California experienced a dry winter. In May, after bud break, we received six inches of rain. Fast forward to the summer solstice in late June and we saw our first of many 100 degree days. The late rain combined with the heat created lush, fruitful vines. The heat calmed down after veraison and we had slow ripening and prolonged hang time which allowed the classic Kamen flavors to explode. All in all a terrific vintage!

A tsunami of aromatics! The 2018 Kashmir rushes from the glass with mineral laden fruit aromas of blackberries, black raspberries, currants and ripe strawberries. Effusive notes of violets, roasted almonds, black cardamom, crushed rocks, mocha and new suede add a heady elegance. Stratified flavors of black and purple fruits are framed by super supple and satisfying tannins resulting in an echoing display of power, balance and elegance through to the last sip and beyond. While this wine will cellar well for decades, it’s difficult to resist drinking now.

Rated 95 Points Decanter
The first vintage of this special cuvée (named after Kamen’s standard poodle) was 2005. After fermentation, the winemaking team selects several barrels that will make a wine with a very different personality to the regular Cabernet. Every year it comes from the same very steep area of the vineyard. What stands out is its wonderful juiciness and freshness and aromas of cassis. Matured for 24 months, just 200 cases were made in 2016.
