Winemakers Notes

Tuscany is the perfect terroir for growing not only red grape varieties, but also white, which successfully proved Agricola San Felice, releasing a beautiful, stylish white wine "Ankerona" created from a blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes for this wine are grown on lime-marl soils special vineyards and Ankerona Kampriano, from the south-east (for Sauvignon Blanc) and southwest (for Chardonnay) exposure. The total area of vineyards located in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga at an altitude of 340-400 meters above sea level, is 5 hectares. Age of vines - over 30 years. After hand-picking in the first half of September, the grapes during the day maceration takes place at a temperature of 8 ° C, then the wine is fermented in small new French oak barrels. Shutter speed is held in two stages: during the first 9 months in oak barrels on the lees and 6 months - in bottles. Wine storage potential is 5-8 years.

It was only at the beginning of the XX century family Del Taya took control of territory and turned the farm into a successful enterprise. The prestige of this family confirms the fact that they were among the founders of the famous Consortium Chianti Classico (their famous logo with a black rooster).
Time after the Second World War was for San Felice decadent, as well as for the entire region of Chianti. But in 1968 fortune turned in the direction of the company, it becomes the largest financial groups. This vineyard selection of Chardonnay grapes amply demonstrates that an area traditonally known for its outstanding reds can also produce superb whites. The Chardonnay brings to the wine structure and complexity, while a small addition of Sauvignon Blanc ensures freshness and a firm acidity. Nine months in small French oak barrels confers a delicious, but muted, nuance of toasty oak.

2018 has began with an early sprouting due to high temperatures in March and April, followed by a fairly rainy May. Temperatures have started to rise again since June: summer temperatures in the norm with scattered rains. The month of September in particular saw a succession of sunny days but with a great thermal excursion between day and night, which allowed the grapes a proper phenolic and aromatic maturation.

A chardonnay with lots of sliced-apple, pineapple and stone character. It’s medium-to full-bodied and richly flavored. Nicely done this year. Drink now.
