2019 Domaine Gros Frere et Soeur Richebourg Grand Cru Cote de Nuits, France
$674.99 USD
While Bernard Gros has ceded the direction of the domaine to his son Vincent, the latter was unable to be present the day I visited so Bernard ably filled in. Bernard's take on the 2019 vintage was, as usual, succinct as he simply said "it's a lovely but tiny vintage. The fruit was definitely quite ripe as our potential alcohols ranged from 13.5 to 15%. We vinified the fruit softly over a one-month period, which produced wines that are deeply colored, exceptionally rich and very generously proportioned. But they have good tannic structures that should enable them to age effortlessly for basically as long as anyone wants to wait." Gros additionally noted that there will be no Chaumes in 2019 as the yields were too small so it was incorporated into the Vosne 1er cuvée.
Tasting Notes
Rated 91-93 Points Burghound
More discreet wood sets off exuberantly spicy and ripe red berry aromas of soy, hoisin, plum and violet. The generously proportioned and attractively rich medium-bodied flavors brim with dry extract that imparts a sappy mouthfeel to the velvety but firm, serious and youthfully austere and slightly warm finale that makes clear that this too is going to require extended cellaring.
