2021 Weingut Petra Unger Q Gruner Veltliner Kremstal, Austria
$15.99 USD
Winemaker Notes
Petra Unger's intro wine is on Austria's national grape Grüner Veltliner and is packed with yellow fruit, light almond bitterness and aromas of chalk and mortar. Extremely delicious and rewarding. Made on the first selection from Oberfelt and Gottschelle. Fresh and inviting aromas of yellow apples and pears. Petra Unger shows here with her intro wine why her style has become so coveted. Grüner Veltliner appears here as crisp and fresh and with a strong mineral taste.
Petra Unger is relatively new to Kremstal (1999), but is already defining in the area. Her vineyards are located on both sides of the Danube on the edge of the Kremstal at the beginning of the Wachau. She has shares in vineyards with such prominent names as Oberfeld, Gottschelle, Fuchaberg, Hintere Point, Zellerkreuz and Gaisberg. It is steep, lumpy fields that throw off wines with towering minerality. The nights are cool and the proximity of the Danube regulates the heat fantastically.
