2014 Cayuse Vineyards Impulsivo Tempranillo Walla Walla Valley, USA

$129.99 USD

Winemaker Notes
"A longer term prospect will be the 2014 Impulsivo, which is 100% Tempranillo brought up in puncheons. It has tons of black and blue fruits, smoked earth and graphite, as well as full-bodied richness, building tannin and top-notch purity. It has a lot of tannin, so it won?t be one to open right on release"

Road tar, shiitake mushroom, black cherry, crushed flowers and graphite all emerge from the 2014 Impulsivo, which is a full-bodied, ethereally textured, structured Tempranillo that has insane purity and length. While it started out downright earthy and umami, it gained more and more fruit as it sat in the glass, has a beautiful mid-palate and a finish that won’t quit. Nevertheless, this firm, tannic wine needs to be forgotten for at least 4-5 years. (JD) 98+

Dark red-ruby. Distinctly wild yet precise scents of dark raspberry, meat, pepper and resiny herbs. Juicy, spicy, very bright and concentrated, with its firm black fruit and fresh berry flavors complicated by smoky minerality. Finishes with lovely length and iron-like minerality; this will go truffley with time in bottle. Tempranillo in a Ribera del Duero style, and not at all overextracted. This may be the suavest vintage to date for this wine owing to near-perfect management of tannins. (ST)

This has handy structure supporting ripe dark cherries in a fresh and more classically styled take on the variety. The palate delivers silky, long-form tannins that curl effortlessly around purple berry fruits.

Alluring aromas of moist earth, cassis bud, olive, nori, pipe tobacco, charcoal, funk and mineral give way to lithe fruit and savory flavors with an ultra soft feel. The texture is absolutely dazzling.
