Winemaker Notes
"All Hundred Acre wines are made by sorting the fruit berry by berry, fermenting in small French oak fermenters, and long aging in the finest barriques. The secret to Hundred Acre is no compromise and no detail overlooked, ever.
The Kayli Morgan Vineyard is located just north of Saint Helena, California at the base of Howell Mountain. The soils are a chocolaty clay; holding moisture to keep the vines cool. As summer progresses, the ground forms micro-cracks, allowing the roots to seek water deeper and deeper into the earth; as they do, they pick up minerals that give Kayli Morgan its distinctive characteristics. Kayli Morgan is a single estate vineyard and 100% Cabernet Sauvignon."
Press
"The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan Vineyard has a medium garnet color and gives up redcurrant and cranberry sauce with a core of cassis, red roses and Ceylon tea plus wafts of garrigue and fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied and wonderfully elegant and fresh in the mouth, it has a beautiful grainy texture and long mineral finish."
Rated 95 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Bright medium red. Less expressive and less fruity on the nose than the 2010, offering scents of redcurrant, spices, herbs, mocha, coffee and truffle, with an element of chocolate mint emerging with air. Seamless and supple in the middle but with a rather tight grain limiting its expressiveness in the early going. Flavors of spices, tobacco and dusty herbs are joined on the finish by a note of caramel. With its dusty tannins, this wine comes across as a bit drier than most of the earlier vintages."
