Winemaker Notes

The release of Altamura is always exciting because the winery has such a great track record of delicious wine. The '95 has all the things that have made Altamura so well liked - it's got plenty of black cherry fruit, hints of coconut, and plenty of toasty oak. A safe bet for excellence. You'll gain a few pounds hangin' around with this one. According to Robert Parker: "A tightly-knit, young but promising Cabernet Sauvignon, Altamura's 1995 exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as an attractive nose of licorice, black currants, and spicy new oak. Rich, with sweet fruit, firm tannin, and a dusty, gritty finish, this wine's tannin will become better integrated with several years in the bottle if my instincts are correct. The fruit is pure and vibrant. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2015." (08/99)
