2012 Domaine Fourrier La Combe Aux Moines Vieilles Vignes, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru, France

$499.99 USD

Winemaker Notes
"The Fourrier family has a series of small holdings within Chambolle Musigny. The village parcel covers .39 hectare and the vines were planted in 1936. Fourrier’s style marries particularly well to the finesse that is so critical to the proper expression of the Chambolle terroir."

The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe Aux Moines comes from 0.87-hectares of vine planted in 1928. It veers more towards the carefree, zesty fruit profile with orange blossom and fresh apricot infusing the pure red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit. This is feminine and nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a very pure, structured entry, a fine line of acidity and wonderful tension towards the finish. This is a seductive but nonchalant Gevrey-Chambertin with superb length that should age with style. (NM)

Fourrier's 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Combe Aux Moines is at once explosive yet floral and weightless. Contrasts abound in a complex, beautifully nuanced Burgundy. Freshly cut flowers, mint, spices and licorice all lift out of the glass effortlessly. This deceptively mid-weight Gevrey packs a serious punch. The lifted, articulate finish is laced with dark cherry and smoke nuances. What a gorgeous wine this is. (AG)
