2018 Joseph Cattin Steinbach Pinot Noir, Alsace

$34.99 USD $39.99 USD

Winemaker Notes
"The 2018 Joseph Cattin 'Steinbach' Pinot Noir comes from a 12th-generation family-owned winery in the heart of France's Alsation region. We tend to think of Alsace as Riesling country but in the village of Steinbach, Pinot Noir is king! Beautifully expressive and wonderfully layered, this wine is a dark reddish-purple color in the glass and heady aromas of black plum, dark cherry, and perfumed purple flowers leap out on the first whiff! The grapes are grown on steep hillside soils of sandstone and the south-eastern facing slopes make for long, warm days in this normally cool region. A big diurnal shift makes for dark colors and a gorgeously vibrant yet powerfully built pinot that is just amazing to drink! Dark cherry and plum fruits layered with cola and savory spice notes flow over muscular yet silky-smooth tannins and the wine surges with coiled power and fleshy richness."

Press

"Red plum and violet aromas are quite charming. A wave of minerality strikes on first sip, giving way to a soft, plush texture, where notes red plum and cherry are restrained and alluring. The contrast between saline minerality and velvety mouthfeel add excitement and make this a joy to drink."
