A markedly spicy nose features notes of earth, plum, cassis and soft floral nuances. There is excellent concentration to the powerful and intense middle weight flavors that also possess a velvety mouth feel before culminating in a balanced, dusty and hugely long finish. The supporting tannins are well-integrated and while this should amply reward longer-term cellaring it should also be approachable after only 7 to 8 years. In a word, terrific.

The Boudots is quite black fruity this year, and Jean-Nicolas Méo decided to use ten percent whole clusters for the wine in 2013. The result is a stellar young example of Boudots, wafting from the glass in a mix of cassis, dark berries, espresso, woodsmoke, dark soil tones, gamebird and a nice framing of cedary wood. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, long and nicely reserved, with a rock solid core, superb transparency, ripe tannins and a long, perfectly focused and nascently complex finish. Another outstanding Nuits in the making.
