2020 Chateau Fombrauge Saint-Emilion Grand Cru France

$44.99 USD

Winemaker Notes

A Grand Cru of Saint-Emilion, the Chateau Fombrauge 2020 is made from a blend of Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). A Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe, Chateau Fombrauge is located on the right bank of Bordeaux. Its vineyard is one of the oldest in Saint-Emilion.

Located in Saint Christophe des Bardes, the vineyard covers 58 hectares of vines planted in a great clay-limestone soil with molasses du fronsadais. The grand vin of the estate, the Chateau Fombrauge 2018 was aged for 16 months in new barrels (40%) and barrels of one previous wine (60%). A brilliant Grand Cru Classe of Saint-Emilion signed Bernard Magrez.

Nose: Expressive nose of regular complexity, primary notes of red fruits, blackcurrants and cherry.

Taste: Appealing, supple and light. The palate is characteristic of its balance: acidity and almost total absence of tannins enhance the impression of roundness. Attractive, elegant and fresh finish.

Rated 95 Points Wine Enthusiast

"From vines surrounding one of Saint-Emilion's most beautiful château, this wine is massively rich with dense tannins, dark chocolate and rich berry flavors. Obviously, it has a fine future, ripe with powerful fruits and structure."

Rated 94 Points James Suckling

"Very linear and tight with a firmness and brightness. Blackcurrant, earth, and lemon rind character throughout. Fresh and racy. Needs time to open. Drink after 2026."

Rated 94 Points Jeb Dunnuck

"Cassis, black raspberries, graphite, spicy oak, and floral notes all emerge from the 2020 Chateau Fombrauge, a wonderfully textured, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, yet elegant Saint-Emilion. A wine that builds beautifully with time in the glass, it complex, has ripe, silky tannins, and a great finish. Tasted on more than one occasion, it never failed to impress. Drink this richly textured, sexy, beautiful 2020 over the coming 15+ years."

Rated 92 Points Vinous

"The 2020 Fombrauge is enticing right out of the gate. Cherries in liqueur, spice, rose petal, menthol, licorice and chocolate make a strong first impression. Racy and deep, with notable textural resonance, Fombrauge is terrific in 2020. There's plenty of opulence and yet the 2020 is nicely balanced."
