1969 was generally an excellent vintage in Burgundy and while many wines have begun to tire in the last few years, it has stayed the course reasonably well. Unfortunately, the DRC '69s, while still pretty, are not among the vintage's best even if they are wines of obvious quality. Completely bricked through. Easily the best part of the '69 RC is the nose with its soaring aromas of sous-bois, caramel, brown sugar, a lovely range of spice nuances and animale undertones that give way to sweet, round and detailed middle weight flavors that reveal perhaps a bit more minerality than usual while culminating in a still focused and equally sweet finish of solid if not sensational length. The structure is almost completely resolved and I would be drinking this now and over the next decade but probably not longer than that as the wine risks cracking up. In sum, a perfectly good wine.

Note on the bottle: DRC bottle # 02228....... We recently acquired nine DRC bottles, from an ex-Oregon winery owner, all were purchased when he caught the Pinot bug, back in the 1980's. All the wines were kept in his cellar before being moved to his San Diego home in 2011.
