2012 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cherbaudes Villa Vignes Cote de Nuits France

$449.99 USD

Winemaker Notes
"The Fourrier family has a series of small holdings within Chambolle Musigny. The village parcel covers .39 hectare and the vines were planted in 1936. Fourrier’s style marries particularly well to the finesse that is so critical to the proper expression of the Chambolle terroir."

"Outstanding* (from .67 ha parcel planted in 1940) A strikingly layered nose combines notes of both red and black cherry with hints of spice, earth, humus and animale notes. The very generous middle weight flavors manage to retain a fine sense of tension and detail before culminating in a beautifully intense, balanced, long and saline-inflected finish. This is a seductive wine of volume but it's the excellent depth that really distinguishes it. Drink: 2022+"

"The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cherbaudes comes from 0.67-hectares of vines planted in 1940. It has a very attractive bouquet with fresh raspberry, Tiptree strawberry jam, light bergamot scents and great delineation. The palate is smooth and silky. This is a more opulent take on the 2012 from Jean-Marie Fourrier, but still well defined with a harmonious, seductive finish adorned with a tang of marmalade on the aftertaste."

"The 2012 Fourrier Cherbaudes is excellent, with the inherent elegance of the vintage very much in evidence in this fine wine. The bouquet delivers a fine aromatic mélange of cherries, strawberries, vinesmoke, a superb base of very chalky soil nuances, mustard seed and a pungent topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and silky, with a sappy core of fruit, excellent expression of terroir, bright acids and outstanding length and grip on the suavely-tannic and vibrant finish. As was the case in 2010, the 2012 Cherbaudes is stunningly elegant out of the blocks this year."
