The 2017 Quinta das Bágeiras Avô Fausto Tinto is an 80/20 blend of Baga and Touriga Nacional aged in old Portuguese 3,000-liter wood for 18 months. It comes in at 12.5% alcohol. Nervy, intense, sharp and tannic, this is an old-school wine with big acidity and dominant structure in general, the type of Baga that reminds me of old-school Nebbiolo. It desperately needs a food pairing that requires a wine that has acidity. Don't even think of drinking it on its own. There's not a lot of fleshiness or sweetness. There's precision and focus, though, and lift to the fruit. This should age well, perhaps better than anticipated.
