Winemaker Notes
Having worked with Joan Sangenís for close to two decades it was a logical decision to select his estate fruit for our Black Slate Porrera. With holdings in some of the top sites in the village, including the famed Mas d’En Caçador vineyard. The Black Slate Porrera is a blend of 20-30 year old Garnatxa and Carinyena with a small addition of Cabernet Sauvignon that is aged in neutral barrels for 12 months.

When a "big" red is on the docket, whether it be to pair with a hefty meal or to contemplate by the fire, Priorat oft gets overlooked. That's a shame, for this mountainous Spanish appellation can render wines that rival Chateauneuf-du-Pape or Napa Cab. Black Slate's versions are extra special as each of their wines come from single villages that display their own particular terroir. Porrera, a blend of Grenache, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon, is a real bruiser with notes of plum, unsweetened chocolate and umami that float along on a thick and decadent texture. Steak on the menu? Take a pass on Bordeaux and give Priorat a go!
