Here too the nose is quite ripe yet fresh with its aromas of poached plum, violet, red and dark currant and warm earth. The delicious and generously proportioned medium weight flavors exude a subtle minerality on the balanced, long and sleekly muscular finish. This is sufficiently plush and fleshy that it could actually be enjoyed after only a few years of cellar time while rewarding up to a decade of it.

Two plots below Mazy-Chambertin, aged 45 and 70 years old. Good earth here above the rock, Arnaud tells me, along with the fact that has learnt to pick this earlier now. Dense purple, some power on the nose, not yet all giving, much more in red fruit, but with good length. Not quite the knock out blow of the 2018, but nonetheless very fine.
