2022 Chateau Rozier Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, France

Winemaker Notes

According to Bordelaiser tradition, this wine is made from the Merlot and Cabernet Franc grape varieties, 80% and 18% respectively, and is completed by 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The property of the Saby family is divided into many small plots and a total of 9 castles. One third of the vines of Château Rozier stand at the foot of the slopes on warm, deep, sandy soils, another third grow in cooler layers on calcareous-sandy soils and the last third is oriented to the south, in a sunny position, on well-drained limestone scree soils. Depending on the location, the grapes develop silkier tannins and ripe, fruity aromas, aromatic freshness and fleshness, or else fullness and elegance. The clever assembly of the grapes for  the Château Rozier Grand Cru from the different parcels gives the wine its fullness, elegance and multifaceted richness.

The Merlot grapes are harvested at the beginning of September, then Cabernet Franc at the end of September. The harvest is done manually, the grapes are harvested in small baskets and fermented in a traditional way. The wine then matures for about 15 months in typical French barrels, one third in new barrels, one third in one-year and one third in two-year barrels.
