2023 Scar of the Sea Bassi Vineyard Pinot Noir, San Luis Obispo County, USA

$49.99 USD

Winemaker Notes

The 2023 Bassi Vineyard Pinot Noir is produced from 24 year old Dijon Clone vines at the Bassi Vineyard, located on the hillsides of Avila Valley, 1 mile from Avila Beach.  The vineyard is in transition to Demeter certified biodynamic certification under our stewardship.  This bottling is a unique snapshot of coastal California, some of the closest vines to the Pacific Ocean in California.  2023 was one of our coolest and latest harvest at Bassi, harvesting in mid-late September and fermenting several different blocks in a range of whole cluster, the final blend is 40% whole cluster. The fruit was fermented with native yeast, no additions, and in 1.5 ton bins.  The wine was pressed at dryness in our 2 ton wooden basket press then aged for 10 months in neutral french oak barrels.  This wine was bottled without filtration & fining, with minimal sulfur used.

Think candied strawberry, citrus peel, maraschino cherries, and worn leather
